QUESTIONS

Here is a list of frequently asked questions.

If you find that there are any questions that I haven’t answered, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

WHAT IS LIFESTYLE PHOTOGRAPHY?

The goal of lifestyle photography is to capture your story; uninterrupted and with the utmost care. It's more than yearly family photos looking straight into the camera. It’s time to be unapologetically unique. Be messy. Go on adventures. Cuddle at home on the couch and play games. Whatever you do, please BE YOU.

WHAT IF WE ARE AWKWARD IN PICTURES?

I get this question all the time! Don't stress. I can make even the most awkward person feel at ease. I'm not going to stare at you and demand you say 'cheese!' I will have you walk and hold hands, laugh at each other, play with your kids, and a million other fun activities to make you look like natural models.

WHERE DO WE GO FOR OUR SESSION?

We can go to a park of your choice, a beach or in your home. Newborn sessions are done in your home.

MY HOUSE ISN'T VERY PRETTY!

Your home is perfect and even if it’s not “Instagram pretty” it’s yours and it’s your home. A quick declutter is all that is required. Make it feel good and the rooms that you spend the most time in and that have the best light, we will hang out in there. I can shoot around clutter and make even the most basic space look amazing.

WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR?

When you book with me I will send you a full guide to preparing for your session, including styling and what to wear for every member of the family. I also offer a complimentary wardrobe consultation to clients who need this – sometimes it can be really difficult to choose an outfit that you feel good in when you have just had a baby. The great benefit of me coming to your home is that we can spend the first 10 minutes looking at clothes and deciding what works best.

HOW LONG DO THE SESSIONS TAKE?

My sessions typically take around an hour. For most children, one hour is enough! One reason that clients come back to me is my ability to build quick rapport with their children and get amazing photographs taken before they start to get grumpy, tired or messy! As a mum myself I totally understand!

DO YOU USE PROPS?

My natural, candid, fun style of photography doesn’t lend itself well to the use of props, except for sentimental items that are meaningful for your family. Feel free to bring favourite toys, balloons, bubble machines or anything that you love!

WHAT IF MY KIDS CAN'T SIT STILL?

Awesome! I specialise in children who can’t sit still or don’t like having their photo taken. The only rule for the kids during a session with me is that there are no rules….I love to let them run around, be children and express their natural personalities. I promise that you will prefer this natural, candid style that will show your child’s spirit to a forced school-photo style cheesy smile to the camera!

I have many tricks up my sleeve to get the shots you want!

WHAT IF MY BABY IS UNSETTLED DURING THE SESSION?

If your baby is unsettled during the session it is not a problem. I can get beautiful images of you feeding the baby, rocking them to sleep or whatever you have to do to settle them. Newborn babies are most comfortable when they are in their mother’s arms and if baby wants to stay there through the whole session then that is absolutely fine with me! The idea of a lifestyle newborn session is that we capture whatever is happening during that 2-hour timeframe, so we follow the baby’s agenda rather than our own.

MY BABY IS OVER 2 WEEKS OLD, IS IT TOO LATE FOR A NEWBORN SESSION?

It is never too late! The reason why traditional newborn sessions need to be done within the first two weeks of your baby's life is that they are a lot more alert after this time and harder to pose while they are asleep. With a lifestyle session, we can work just as well with a sleepy or alert baby – I have done a lifestyle newborn session with babies aged from 1 to 16 weeks of age!
